The Taj Mahal Marathon - India

THE TAJ MAHAL MARATHON 2009

We regret to inform that The Taj Mahal Marathon 2008 has been cancelled.
We are looking forward to The Taj Mahal Marathon 2009.

The glorious Taj Mahal casts a shadow of eternal love and good old-fashioned exoticism over the beautiful area around it. The brand new race in the Adventure Marathon® series is a unique chance for all runners to experience the classic marathon distance in truly spectacular surroundings.

Taj Mahal is India’s most famed landmark – and with good reason. The monument was built as a symbol of Shah Jahan’s eternal love for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It took 20,000 workers 15 years to construct the imposing building, made in white marble and decorated with gems and inscriptions from the Koran – Shah Jahan must really have loved his wife. Taj Mahal has figured on the UNESCO world heritage list for many years, and just recently it has been elected one of the new 7 wonders of the world.

The Taj Mahal Marathon starts at Taj Khema, a hilltop right in front of Taj Mahal and with a fabulous view to the majestic monument. From here the 42 km run through sunflower fields and picturesque villages, where time has stood still since the days when houses were made of straw, field work carried out by hand and carts were drawn by buffalos or dromedaries. Apart from the curious villagers, wild peacocks, Indian antelopes and possibly the odd elephant will serve as spectators.

The chance to be among the first adventure marathoners to complete The Taj Mahal Marathon only comes once in a lifetime. So hurry up, if the idea of running in a remote, romantic part of India in the atmosphere of one of the world’s most extraordinary sights appeals to you.
